Private Dedicated Cloud Based Optimization and Solutions

McQueen Technology Group offers low-cost private cloud environments running in our highly-available vSphere clusters within our tier 3plus hosting ficilities with multiple redundancies at all levels. We provide solutions to common infrastructure requirements for businesses of all sizes. Through the use of virtualization at every layer, we are able to offer solutions that provide high-availability and continuous operations for the most demanding workloads. Starting at the core of our solutions lies fully-redundant hardware. This includes redundant switches (both Ethernet and Fiber Channel), power supplies, fans, and storage controllers in a facility full of redundancy from air conditioners, power feeds, generators, etc.

Server Virtualization

Our virtualization services are provided by a hypervisor. We use VMware’s vSphere in most cases. vSphere provides a highly-flexible virtual machine runtime environment that is built for the Enterprise. vSphere is currently in use by every Fortune 500 company. CPU and Memory can be controlled to consolidate multiple server workloads onto a single physical server. It is not a scaling technology. vSphere does not spread single workloads across multiple servers. However, vSphere can, in many cases, better utilize a single server a single OS can by running multiple virtual machines, scaling out an application’s work. &nbsp Our Storage virtualization is provided by both the hypervisor as well as our SANs to assist in abstracting the complex configuration required for highly-available and scalable storage systems. Storage abstraction is incredibly useful in simplifying the many layers of storage architectures including:

  • Storage Network - either Fiber Channel or Ethernet where a SAN connects (we use Fiber Channel)
  • SAN - a redundant, multi-controller storage unit controlling many physical disks
  • RAID - an array of multiple physical disks acting as one but with redundancy
  • LUN - a logical unit that represents a portion of a RAID
  • VMFS - in vSphere, the hypervisor’s filesystem on a LUN where Virtual Disks reside
  • Virtual Disk - a logical unit that emulates a single physical disk
  • Filesystem - the OS’ filesystem such as NTFS for Windows, Ext3 for Linux, etc.

Network virtualization is provided by both the hypervisor and storage and network switches to abstract the many physical layers that provide levels of redundancy, reliability, separation, and protection. A basic network consists of multiple machines communicating with each other over an Ethernet. This can consist of something as basic as a hub, which has no intelligence about what traffic is being passed. A highly complex network consists of high-speed switches that can look at every bit of traffic being passed and perform functions based on its programming to provide the above levels of redundancy, reliability, etc. Network abstraction simplifies the view of the network switching so the user can pretend they are working with something as simple as a hub when they are actually working with a highly-complex environment.
